To offset the cost of providing electric service to rural areas in Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair counties, MCEC offers cost-saving alternatives to its members. Monroe County Electric Co-Operative has one of the state’s most comprehensive energy marketing programs.

Capital Credits
As a nonprofit corporation, MCEC sells no stock, declares no dividends, and all excess revenue over expenses (net margins) are returned to the members of the cooperative. This is called Capital Credits. Each year, this net margin - or Capital Credit - is credited to the capital account of each member in proportion to the amount of electric power purchased at such times as the financial condition of MCEC permits. As of December 31, 2006, MCEC has returned a total of $2,656,847 to our members.

Certified Comfort Home
Monroe County Electric Co-Operative understands that building a new home can be a very stress-filled time in one’s life. To help new home builders in our area, MCEC offers a guide to energy efficient construction standards - Certified Comfort Home. This booklet is filled with tips to build a home with the lowest energy consumption possible while ensuring your comfort level will be at the highest possible level. For a copy, contact MCEC.

Budget Billing
MCEC makes a fixed or levelized budget plan available to members with a minimum of a 12 month history with the cooperative. The program is voluntary and members must remain on the selected program for a 12 month period.

Fixed Budget Program
Monthly payments are based on the member household’s past 12 months of electric usage. The budget period ends on October 1. If the monthly payments made during the previous year have been higher than actual consumption, a credit will appear on the November 1 electric bill. Should electric usage be more than payments made, a statement for the difference will be sent on November 1. If there is a substantial difference either way, the budget payment plan for the household will be adjusted accordingly for the ensuing year.

Levelized Budget Program
The level budget plan takes the previous 11 months’ usage, adds the current month’s usage and divides by 12 to obtain average monthly consumption. The monthly bill is calculated at the applicable rate plus charges and taxes as appropriate. The amount is rounded to the nearest dollar and becomes the monthly billing amount.

MCEC offers members the convenience of sending or receiving fax messages for $1 per page from the MCEC office. MCEC fax number is 1-618-939-3969
